What is the credentialing process for an Acupuncture Practitioner?

In Florida, practitioners of Tradition Chinese Medicine are certified by the National Commission for Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as Diplomat of Acupuncture (Dipl. Ac.).  Currently requirements call for five years of college level schooling, including Western arts and sciences, study of Acupuncture theory, diagnosis and treatment. Practical application of modalities in the clinic setting is part of the 3-year internship. The national board exams and Clean Needle Technique are required for licensing to practice as an Acupuncture Physician (A.P.) by the Department of Health Florida Board of Acupuncture.  Practitioners are required to display their license.  Florida practitioners may use the designation AP, Acupuncture Physician or DOM, Doctor of Oriental Medicine.
